Chennai’s iconic screen, the Casino Theatre, is getting a new lease of life as efforts are underway to revamp the interior of the theatre.

When you enter the casino, you will be pleasantly surprised by its interior, because it is not a famous theater. The wooden seats were replaced with comfortable seats with cushions. From the projector to the audio system, everything gets a subtle upgrade.

“We are doing everything we can to ensure that audiences enjoy the theater,” the spokesperson said, adding that renovations began more than a month ago.
SPI Cinemas was the previous shareholder and managed operations at the cinema until the lease expired earlier this year. The lease is now owned by an independent body. Casino Theater is expected to be fully operational with the Ajith Kumar starrer

The Casino Theater opened on 13 December 1941 and the first film to be shown was a British comedy.

. The theater belongs to the family of JH Irani, who visited Madras in the early 1930s to open an ice factory on General Peters Road.
During the first decade, the cinema mainly showed English films. But Tamil films started showing in the mid-1950s. However, in 1971, the theater returned to showing English films.
In the early 2000s, Casino Theater started showing popular Telugu movies and became a popular Telugu theater for the city dwellers.
