Stephens and Torres discuss factors that may have contributed to this growth, including outreach from educational parties and social media engagement by industry professionals. The pair also emphasize the value of continuing education, which 35% of respondents said they were pursuing, and how it’s critical for healthcare technology management professionals to grow in their career field.

Another key theme from the 24×7 Compensation and Job Satisfaction Survey 2022 was the number of respondents who said they would promote the HTM profession to others, with 36% very likely to do so and 29% likely regardless from a common theme of feeling overwhelmed. . Stephens and Torres also look at the problem of an aging workforce and the need to replace those retiring from the HTM industry. Overall, the survey results show positive trends in the HTM industry, with increasing participation, diversity and education.

Finally, Stephens and Torres dive into the salary survey and discuss some of its most surprising findings.
Hello, this is the 24×7 podcast on the MEDQOR Podcast Network. I’m Keri Stephens and I’m the editor-in-chief of 24×7 and your host. I’m here today with a good friend of the podcast, Chace Torres, AKA, Bearded Biomed. And we’re here to discuss the results of the HTM 2022 Salary Survey, which came out earlier this year. Chace, thanks for joining me today.
Of course. I was looking forward to it. This is 2023, here we are, ready to hook up with the mic again.
We are. So, just to let everyone know, I was on Chace’s Spirited Biomed podcast to discuss this survey, so be sure to check that out as well. Here’s part two, we just wanted to get into the weeds of the poll and I have to say there were a lot of things that surprised me about this year’s poll, but was Chace the biggest surprise as far as biomedicine?
Vanna White’s Salary Demands For ‘wheel Of Fortune’ Revealed: Pay Discrepancy With Pat Sajak Was Huge
Specifically, something about this we talked about another time, but the biggest thing for me was one, participation in the survey. So, more respondents and of those surveyed, more than being women, which is great. The number of female respondents, I think, was almost twice compared to the previous year.
They acted. Thus, in 2021, women accounted for 11% of respondents and in 2022 it doubled to 22%, 22%. So in terms of the biomedical field, that’s remarkable, especially when there was such a stigma against women in the field, even though it’s a male-dominated field, which is fine, it still is, but it seems to be it changes. it’s worth to mention. me.
Yes, it is still under the control of men, but because, as I said, it doubles the percentage of people dealing with it, and if they happen to find out for the first time, there is little chance that we will. there was growth within the park. So it’s very exciting.
So what do you think is contributing to this, why do you think more women are entering the HGM field?

I think it’s a combination of different factors. There have been many contacts from educational, organizational parties, such as AMI, College of Biomed, then you have engagement on social networks from people like me, Bryant, Sherrell, Justin, believe it or not, just yesterday I gave another young woman. Biomed started its own YouTube channel.
Alaskan Travel Biomed. I’m all for it. The more engagement, the more we can get people to fully see what we do. So check out her YouTube channel too if you’re listening. It’s really good, a lot of ASMR snow, which I appreciate.
But going back to what I was talking about, there are a lot of different factors that people go through and explain exactly what we do. And over the years, talking to a lot of my female colleagues, just from getting them to where it was, to where it is now, there’s been more participation and more understanding that obviously women can do the same job than a man.
And because this is essentially a STEM career, it’s math, it’s science, it’s electronics, it’s a combination of everything. I think people are finally starting to see the value of it and want to pursue it and of course, the word has grown about it. So I think that’s at least one factor there, if not a big part of the pie.

I agree. And I will say another thing that surprised me personally and we discussed on your podcast is the amount of readers or respondents who are readers who are engaged in further education. So this year, or in 2022, 35% said they were currently pursuing further education, which was a significant increase from 2021. And I think that speaks to more people getting involved in this field, the changing demographic and perhaps one of more interest. I think it’s amazing to see how education can advance their careers.
Continuing education is vital for any biomedical practitioner who wants to grow in their career field. And of course, with more credibility, more education, certifications, when you add that to your repertoire or your tool belt as some would say, it will give you additional opportunities, maybe a job that you want to be promoted to to get it, or it will make you better known in the recruiting market so you can get that job and get that promotion you want. Education, of course, makes us better technicians, but it will also give you back more opportunities, more wages.
Of course. And personally, another thing that I thought was cool that we can talk about is how many people said they would promote the HTM profession to others. So even if they think they’re overwhelmed, a theme we heard throughout the survey, they’re still really … 36% said they were very likely to promote the HTM profession and 29% said they were likely. So those are good numbers. I mean, these people are really encouraging people to come and be a part of this, which is what we need.
I mean, there’s obviously an aging problem outside of biomedicine if we don’t know who’s going to replace these people who are retiring. I think the field was a little younger than years ago, but I mean typically, the average age is over 40 years old. So we have these new people coming into the field. So that was great for me to hear.
How The 4 Hour Workweek Silently And Powerfully Influences Culture, 17 Years After Its Publication
And one of my favorite quotes that people have said … one of the respondents wrote, “I feel like the engine in the vehicle, you may not always see me, but you know that I am able to take adequate care to ensure for all . patients.” Can you talk about this from an actual biomedical perspective, why you feel like the engine in the vehicle or if you feel it?
You know me, I love any kind of news or hints on what biomed is within anything else. We were called so many things. Engines are ideal because we keep everything running. I mean, we literally, we keep all of your medical equipment and all of your equipment working to the manufacturer’s specifications.
So to do that, I mean it takes a lot. There are so many different methods out there. There are so many different types of training, different needs that these machines will require a technician to be aware of. Sometimes it’s as simple as getting left chair training from an experienced senior technician. And some of them, when you get into specialty mods, you have to go after that specialized OEM training.
So what am I saying by this? We literally have so many different components that we have to take care of that we are essentially the engine within the medical facility. We are keeping everything running. We are in contact with them every day. Whether you’re at home or a field service technician, when you jump into different facilities, you’re enabling them to do what they need to do, which is patient care.

So, without medical equipment, this will not happen. Or at least … the level of patient care will be minimized. I’m not saying that nurses and doctors can’t do their job without equipment, but it will make their job harder, won’t it?
Much more difficult. Yes, of course. Well, I also think, now we should probably get into most of the things that people are interested in with the salary survey. I mean, the keyword salary. People want to know if they are being paid properly. And this year, I will say that the results were few
