Epiphone Casino

Epiphone Casino – The Epiphone Casino is a slim-body electric guitar manufactured by Epiphone, a subsidiary of Gibson. The guitar debuted in 1961 and joined guitarists such as Howlin’ Wolf, George Harrison, John Lynn, Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher, Keith Richards, Dave Davis, Brad Whitford, Shirley Manson, Paul Weller, The Edge, Josh Homme, Daniel Kessler, Braden Urie, Gary Clark, Jr., Glynn Frey, John Ilsley, and Peter Gray.

Casinos were built in the United States, Japan, Korea and China. Korean models made by peerless plants are in high demand. Some colors do that, i.s. Metallic Light Blue (ML) is rare and expensive.

The Casino, designated by Epiphone as the E230TD model, is a slim hollow-bodied guitar with two Gibson P-90 pickups. A trapeze-type tailpiece is usually fitted, although a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece is often used instead (either as a factory direct feature or as an aftermarket modification). Unlike semi-hollow body guitars like the Gibson ES-335, which have blocks to increase sustain and reduce feedback, the Cassino and its siblings, the Gibson ES-330, are true hollow-body guitars. This makes it lighter and louder when played without noise, but has more feedback than a semi-hollow electronic or motor. The Casino neck joins the body at the 16th fret instead of the 19th like the Gibson ES model.

Early versions of the casino have a spruce top. Since 1970, the casino headstock is set at a 17-degree angle and the top is made of five laminated layers of maple, birch, maple, birch and maple.

With the exception of the John Lennon model, later Casinos were built with five-ply full maple laminated tops with a 14-degree headstock angle. The Curt version has a laminated maple top, sides and back, and a mahogany neck.

According to the Epiphone String Gauge Guide, the Casino string gauges (high to low) come with: 0.010″ 0.013″ 0.017″ 0.026″ 0.036″ 0.046″.

(1962 model), used it for his studio forays into guitar work, including his guitar solos on “Ticket to Ride” (1965), “Drive My Car” (1965) and “Taxman” (1966); He also played in “Helter Skelter” (1968). In 1965, John Lennon and George Harrison bought the 1965 Casino.

John Lennon used Epiphone Casino as his electronic theme during his time with the Beatles, replacing Rick Baker 325.

When the band did two albums The Beatles in 1968, Lynn removed the carrier from his casino and professionally sanded the exposed wood and lightly varnished it with two thin coats of nitro-cellulose.

In the early seventies, the original tuners were replaced with Gold Grover tuners or machine heads.

Harrison had it fitted with a Bigsby tram and removed the pickup. He still sanded it in 1968.

McCartney’s 1962 casino, preserved in its original solar finish, is still owned and occasionally used live. As with Harrison’s Casino, McCartney removed the carrier and added the Bigbsy tram. Don’t worry, this isn’t the long-awaited US version of the Casino, it’s the Casino you can get today, manufactured at the Epiphone factory in China. That makes it a really good tool at a price or in the affordable range for many people.

Why is there a casino? Some jealously want to try to be John Lennon? No. I bought this, and I bought it, I blame myself, but with the main influence of Mick Taylor, the distant fool of the pedal show. I don’t do everything Mick does, but he and Dan influence me very well. In a recent vlog, Mick takes viewers through his personal casino experience. When I was brand new, he bought it used on eBay from my good friend Peter Walden of Cosmo Music in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Cosmo has two regular casinos in stock in the sky and it chooses the best one and then has the technology to do the initial setup for me. It was out of the box yesterday and played for the first time today as I like to let the guitar acclimate for a while. Probably pointless, but I did it anyway.

New casino before closing time. It’s leaning towards winning The Viscount amp and you can see I haven’t peeled the plastic off the pickups or lifted the guards at this point.

I love hollow body and semi hollow guitars. They have a feeling that is different from physical and emotional acoustics. Casino does not have a center like 335, but has a support structure to keep the bridge from causing problems. Remember, it is more powerful than the 335 or 355.

The neck is not too thick or too stiff. In terms of the trio of ursines, it is “only”. Epiphone calls it the SlimTaper D. Ok that’s good. The neck material is solid mahogany with pearloid inlays with pau ferro fingerboard. The top, back and sides are 5 ply laminated maple with internal basswood bracing. This makes the body very heavy and airy. There are two Dogear P90T Classic pickups with nickel covers. The bridge is of the pneumatic type and the tailpiece is an old style trapeze. Epiphone says all metal parts are nickel plated, which is fine in my opinion. Nickel ages well, in my opinion, chrome does not. There are two volumes and two tones and there are three modes. The output is mounted on the top and when I play as much standing up, I find it most convenient.

I was surprised to find that the strings did not look or sound like Gibson Brightwires, a string that disappointed me, but instead were clearly marked as D’Addarios 10-46. They will eventually be replaced with Curt Mangan Monels but it’s surprising that the string doesn’t need to be replaced immediately.

The only problem I have is that the neck packing knob has a slight slope on its shaft, but that is easily fixed. Otherwise fit and finish are excellent. Mick announces that his casino’s true poly will survive the Finnish rocket attack. My tip is as thick as usual, but not as thick as I’ve seen. I heard that the Epiphone factory has been working on their finishing process for the last few years, the finished product is very thick.

Mine is a natural finish, but turquoise and vintage sunburst are available if you prefer.

Mick’s job is to replace his casino items with something better. His collection was too noisy from my studio view, as the filter cabinet cut through the high end like mud. No openness and no existence. He uses Lollar’s P90s and the sound change is huge. In fairness, he also replaced the factory pots and wire looms with high-end products made in the thread layout of the 50s. I have had this type of build on many of my guitars and frankly wonder why the company changed it.

My guitar stock looks great. Not good, but good. When I woke up in the morning, I played all my tests through my camper profiler first and listened through Focal headphones plugged into the camper. I tested the Casino with various amps and cabs and found it to be fine with most clean amps, with a preference for 65 Super Reverb and AC 30 in the clean channel with no boost. They weren’t much in my opinion, and if the guitar plays well and is well received, I’ll upgrade the controls and pickups at some point like the mic, and given past good experience with the Lawler P90s, maybe it’ll go away. That way again. I’ll give Epiphone credit, the P90s sound better than the P90 Soap Bar in my PRS SE semi-hollowbody baritone. This means that when the time comes, Lawler will get a double verdict.

I will give Epiphone credit for the noise control. The pickup is very quiet unless you are running overdrive or distortion over 50% or if you are close to the amp.

Playing Camper with headphones is difficult. So the next step is to play through the Camper and then my Universal Audio Twin | x that connects directly to Focal Studio Monitors. It was Peter Walden who introduced me to Focal and if you haven’t heard him and enjoyed the sound, you owe it to yourself to do so. They’re not cheap, but you’ll hear things you never knew before. I auditioned them in a song I know well, Heavy Weather from Weather Report and I heard something that Jaco played that I had never heard before.

Back on topic. When moving from the camper to the studio, the sound is beautiful,
