ANN ARBOR – If you’re one of the many people who have sent Sharon Moore a Facebook message lately, chances are she hasn’t seen it.

Since becoming Michigan’s interim head coach a few weeks ago, Moore has received a flurry of messages via text and social media. But not really a Facebook user. He may see the warning, but often not the message. Besides, it’s kind of busy.

Like the man he temporarily replaced, Moore focused on preparing for the biggest game of the college football season.
For many fans, the difference between an offensive coordinator and a head coach is huge. The first is a person who appears on TV many times while playing sports. He was wearing headphones and holding a music book in his hand. The latter is the face of the program.
Moore, 37, was put on the spot after the Big Ten suspended Jim Harbaugh for the final three games of the regular season, a punishment that suited Michigan’s strong team.
“Coach Moore has done an amazing job running this team,” running back Blake Corum said Monday.

So who is Moore? He grew up in Derby, Kansas, which is located in Wichita. He attended nearby Butler County Community College, where he played two years of football as an offensive lineman and won two conference titles. He transferred to Oklahoma for his final two years of college, where he won two Big 12 titles, blocked Adrian Peterson and played in two Fiesta Bowls, including an all-time classic against Boise State.
“I see how funny the coaches coach their players and study the game at Oklahoma as if I were a coach,” Moore said in 2019. “Guys always tell me, ‘You’re going to -be a coach.’ ‘Why did you say that?’
He entered coaching immediately after graduating from Oklahoma in 2008. He spent five seasons at Louisville and four at Central Michigan, progressing from graduate assistant to tight end coach, assistant coach and coordinator job.
Harbaugh brought Moore to Michigan in 2018. He was a tight end coach for three years before moving to the offensive line and adding a reputation as an offensive lineman. He is in his first season as the only offensive coordinator (and signal caller) in addition to the coaching staff who won the award as the best in the country the last two seasons.

It’s been a year for Moore. It may seem like a long time ago, but he was involved in a recruiting charge and was suspended for the start of the season along with Harbaugh. In Harbaugh’s first absence, Michigan used a rotating group of coaches for the first three games. Moore captured the third game, a 31-6 win over Bowling Green.
After Harbaugh was suspended again earlier this month due to Michigan’s cheating scandal (he could be with the team during the week but not on the field on game day), Moore was tasked with saving Michigan’s season. without defeat. He didn’t give it to her at that time. 10 Penn State (24-15), Maryland (31-24). Both were Michigan’s closest games of the year. Ohio State, also second in the nation with an 11-0 record, plays next Saturday at Michigan Stadium (12:14 p.m., FOX).
Moore said his pre-game preparation hasn’t changed much as an interim coach. He thinks more about the big picture of the game, including what happens at the end of the first half. He was responsible for the speech before the final game (Corum said Moore’s speech was less than Harbaugh’s).
Moore was asked about managing the game without Harbaugh on Monday. “My preparation during the whole season in the training camp in spring football has prepared me for those moments where I can think like a coach and make a decision at the same time. I think he will need it. ” Moore said.

The manager is also the person who communicates with the judges. “I’m not going to tell them how (Harbaugh) talks to them,” Moore said with a smile. “It serves him right. He can tell the judge whatever he wants. I’m just trying to communicate and understand what’s going on, what they’re calling, what they’re seeing. “
Outside of the field of sports management, the biggest change for Moore is the amount of social media. As the head coach, he speaks to the media every few weeks during the season. He has been given numerous interviews, including an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay before the recent Maryland game.
There are interviews and other information on his phone. “Other than that, we’re the same person and we’re doing the same thing,” Moore said. He married in 2015 and has two young daughters who “still run the house.”
On Saturday, Moore will lead Michigan to the Big House and a trip to the Big Ten Championship with a chance to play.
