The Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition is now available in the United States. Yes, this is the same Baccarat famous for its beautiful crystal. Previously available as a tour exclusive, the Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition, Kentucky Bourbon, was aged for an additional three years in XO Cognac barrels.

Before I get to the tasting notes, I must mention that the Baccarat crystal decanter is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Not surprising considering it’s produced by Baccarat.
The nose is full of dark fruit and baking spices along with dark caramel and oak spice. The 90.4 whiskey is easy to drink on the palate. Don’t confuse “easy drinking” with “uncomplicated,” because this bourbon really blossoms. The traditional notes of Woodford Reserve – caramel, vanilla, spices – are complemented by ripe plums, oak spices and tobacco. The medium-length finish includes the fruity sweetness usually associated with cognac.
What a terrific release from the Woodford Reserve! Bourbon whiskey and cognac barrels work well together. The flavors and aromas complement each other beautifully. The Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition retails for $2,000. This release is Woodford’s attempt to put the bourbon on the same footing as the older, more expensive single malts, though not aged. It certainly has a unique smell and taste, although a large part of the cost will be a beautiful crystal carafe. If you get the chance, don’t miss the chance to try it. You’ll be thankful you did. One of Kentucky’s oldest and smallest distilleries, today’s Woodford Reserve is steeped in history and is home to Kentucky’s oldest distillery, where Elijah Pepper began making whiskey in 1812. It was on this hallowed ground that many years later, master distiller James Christopher Crowe perfected whiskey-making techniques that have become common practice today, including: adding an acidic mash to the fermentation.
The distillery features a 150-foot draft-fed barrel, our copper stills, and 100-year-old cypress wood fermenters. We also boast one of the few barrels in the world that are heat cycled, ensuring that every drop reaches the charred and toasted white oak that gives Woodford Reserve its color and distinctive flavor.

Please note that we only deliver within Ontario. © 2023 “Ready for the ultimate expression of American whiskey?” Woodford Reserve recently released a surprise bottle called Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition. What’s in the bottle? A standard Woodford that spends an additional three years in XO cognac casks. The drink’s name, of course, comes from the bottle it’s in, a handcrafted Baccarat crystal decanter.
According to the company: “The stunning bottle design is designed to match the iconic silhouette of the Woodford Reserve bottle and is engraved in gold with the Woodford Reserve and Baccarat logos. It comes in Baccarat’s red box and the Woodford Reserve includes a crystal stopper decorated with initials.
We didn’t get a decanter, but Woodford sent us a sample and a nice Baccarat cup in which we swirled the spirits. I usually try Glencairn, but I will say that this one tastes better than a $100 a glass Old Fashioned.
As for whiskey, it’s solid stuff. The nose is immediately sweet – all the time spent in cognac barrels is precisely managed. Coffee, vanilla and a bit of buttery popcorn are dominant in the first place, but it’s the raisin flavor note and a hint of citrus that definitely and pleasantly reminds me of cognac.
Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition 45.2% 0.7 Ltr.
The dish does not deviate from the theme: it is very sweet, with citrus and a little spice. After a while, the smell of milk chocolate comes to the fore, which is not a flavor element I associate with Woodford. Cognac cask reigns again, as it should. This brandy exerts the greatest pressure on the veil, where strong notes of incense and flowers appear, all set against a vivid background of caramel and vanilla. The combination works really well and fans of bourbon and cognac should love it.
