The result at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium was India’s biggest win in a Cricket World Cup. In total, it was Australia’s second biggest win in the coveted tournament after last week’s 309-run victory over the Netherlands.
There have been only three other examples of such a big winning streak in men’s one-day international (ODI) history. Everything happened this year.
These include India’s record 317-run thrashing of Sri Lanka in January, Zimbabwe’s 304-run win over the USA in June and Australia’s 309-run win over the Netherlands earlier in the tournament.
Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah started the carnage against Sri Lanka by scoring the team’s two wickets in the first ball.
Fixtures Released For ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023
Bumrah dismissed Pathum Nissanka on the first ball of the match to become the first Indian player to take a first-ball wicket on the team’s debut in a World Cup match.
Siraj dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne in the first delivery of the second over, leaving Sri Lanka at 2 for 2.
Shami then finished with five wickets as he smashed just 18 in his five overs. With this, he became India’s leading run-scorer in the Men’s Cricket World Cup with 45 wickets in just 14 matches at an average of 12.91.
India were initially split between Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath with 44 runs each. However, they needed more matches than Shami to achieve. Khan had already scored 44 runs in 23 matches, while Srinath needed 34 more.
World Cup 2023 Cricket Match
India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli has been one of the best performers in the ongoing World Cup. In seven matches, Kohli has 104 second half-centuries and is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 442 behind South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who has 545.
His final knock of 88 runs off 94 balls took him to the Cricket World Cup with 1,472 points, helping him surpass Australia’s David Warner (1,405) and move up to fourth on the all-time list.
Only Sachin Tendulkar (2,278 runs), Ricky Ponting (1,743) and Kumar Sangakkara (1,532) have scored more runs than Kohli in their careers in this tournament.
The former India captain also brought up his 13th 50-plus score in the Cricket World Cup, the second most by any player in the tournament and behind Tendulkar’s 21.

In 2023, Kohli became the best in ODIs by crossing the 1,000-run mark. The 34-year-old scored 1,054 runs at an average of 65.87 in 23 matches. He scored more than 1,000,000 runs in ODIs eight times in a calendar year – the highest ever by a 50-over player.
The men in blue have collected 14 points from seven games and are well placed in the standings for the 2023 World Cup. Their next match is against South Africa on November 5 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Points Table 2023 World Cup: Team Standings After India Vs Pakistan Match
The World Cup begins with a repeat of the 2019 Final with England taking on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.
A total of 10 teams will participate in the showcase event and the top eight will qualify for the Cricket World Cup Super League. The last two places will be determined at the end of the tournament, which will end on July 9 in Zimbabwe.
Each team plays nine more games in a round-robin format, with the top four qualifying for the playoffs and semifinals.
Apart from the opening match and India’s semi-final encounter in Australia, the tournament is full of high-profile clashes.

Australia will take on South Africa in Lucknow on October 12 as a rare encounter in the last edition ended for the Proteas.
The much awaited clash between India and Pakistan will take place in Ahmedabad on October 14. Their last encounter in the 2019 World Cup was a big affair that saw India pull off a massive win in Manchester.
Pakistan will face Australia in Bengaluru on October 20 and England will face South Africa in Mumbai the next day.
Match Schedule Announced For ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023
India will take on New Zealand at the Dharamsala Stadium on October 22 to avenge their 2019 semi-final defeat, while Australia will take on arch-rivals England in Ahmedabad on November 4. The defending champions defeated the Aussies to reach the final four years ago.
India will host England, who defeated them in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 last year, on October 29 in Lucknow.
The first leg of the final will be played in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 15, while the semi-final will be played in Kolkata. There will be a specific day for the semi-finals.
The final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, with November 20 being the redemption day.

There will be 10 locations in total – Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata.
