While net run rate is discussed extensively by fans, many do not know how to calculate it. Here’s some simple math: Net Run Rate comes when you take the average runs scored by each team in each game and subtract it from the average runs scored against that team in each game.
A team’s run average is calculated by dividing the total runs scored in all matches of the tournament by the total number of runs played by that team.
For example: If India scored 200, 300, 400 in three matches against Pakistan, England and Australia in 50 overs in each match. Then the sum of runs (200+300+400=900) will be divided by the total number of overs (150). So 6 is the average number of runs by India here.
Now we calculate the average number of overs allowed by India. Suppose India scored 150, 250, 350 in these three matches where 50 overs were bowled, then the sum of runs scored (150+250+350=750) is divided by 150 overs. The result will be 5.

Suppose India scored 300 from 50 overs in an innings but due to rain the revised target was 240 in 38 overs, then to calculate NRR we take 240 runs from 38 overs as runs scored by India in a given number overs. .
