Two of the biggest names in Indian cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are set to play against each other in the opening match of IPL 2021. How will they evenly compete in terms of batting and captaincy in the IPL?Here’s the overview.

Rohit Sharma Cricket Records

Captain’s Record Sharma was part of a record six winning campaigns (against Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians), including five as captain of Mumbai Indians. Under Sharma, the Mumbai Indians became the most successful franchise in the league, winning 68 of 116 games. However, Sharma’s performance with the bat as captain cannot be called great. His average score as captain is 30.25 points, while without the captain’s armband he averages 32.91 points. Kohli is one of only four IPL captains to have over 100 caps and is the only player in that list to fail to win a title.

Rohit Sharma Created History, Broke World Record For Fastest Century In The World Cup

Kohli’s overall win-loss record as IPL captain is also not great. The Royal Challengers won only 55 of 125 games under him. However, there are not many players who can match Kohli’s consistency and impact as a batsman. He is one of the best run-getters in the tournament and also holds the record for the most runs as a captain. Kohli’s average of 43.88 as captain is second only to David Warner (49.01) among players who have hit over 1000 runs as captain, and his IPL average (26.96) before leading the charge with Royals Challengers. book).

Impact of bat on team Mumbai Indians are much less dependent on Sharma, Kohli’s Royal Challengers batsman. While Sharma has moved around in the batting order, Kohli is a top-order specialist. He only won four times outside of the top three for Royal Challengers and contributed 22.93% of the team’s overall points. On the other hand, over 40% of Sharma’s captaincy career has been spent batting outside the top three. Although he has been at the top of the game for the past two seasons, he hasn’t been able to achieve a high level of consistency or run rate. However, if he scores big runs, there is a good chance that Mumbai Indians will win. Only seven of his 22 50s as captain ended in defeat, and he was named Man of the Match in 12 of his 15 50 wins. Kohli also contributed to the Royal Challengers’ victory, scoring a quarter of the team’s total points in these matches. Kohli’s winning percentage as captain is 64.02 with four centuries and 55 wins and 15 wins and 50 draws.

How they structure their innings in IPL If you look at the scoring rate at different stages of his innings, Sharma and Kohli play his style very similar. Both scores are a strike rate of just over 110 for him in the powerplay and over 120 for the middle overs. In his last four overs, the strike rate rose to 2 runs per ball for him, with Sharma scoring his 198.26 and Kohli his 205.52. Both players are relatively slow coming off the blocks, preferring to settle before switching to higher speeds. There is a risk factor with this approach, but if a batsman performs well during this period, the team will suffer before that batsman is dropped, but there is a very good chance of a turnaround if he converts these starts: India Among all players, Kohli’s strike rate and Sharma overs at the death occupy the top two positions (minimum 500 runs). Overall, only AB de Villiers (233.08) and Andre Russell (218.03) have batted faster than them during this period. Just like strike rate, so do boundary ball rate and dot rate. While Kohli scored fewer runs in the three phases of the innings (46%, 29%, and 21% from start to finish, respectively, compared to Sharma’s 52%, 32%, and 25%), Sharma scored fewer runs in the powerplay. Better in runs scored (a boundary every 5.6 balls until Kohli’s sixes. Over his IPL career, Sharma’s strike rate is 36.16 to Kohli’s 33.62, but he has scored 5.96 balls as against Kohli’s 6.38). Reached the boundary once.

The leg-spinner has been the best bowler for IPL teams when playing against Sharma and Kohli. Sharma generally struggles with leg-spin, and his struggles in that aspect were particularly evident in 2017, when he was sent off six times for leg-spin after returning from a six-month injury absence. In his IPL career, Sharma has averaged 27.13 against leg-spinners and his strike rate is 113.24. There is a perception that Kohli is weak against leg spin, but the numbers tell a different story. In this type of bowling he averages 53.56 points and strikes he scores 142.35 points. However, Kohli has been increasingly prone to falling off his feet lately. In the recent T20I series against England, he was dismissed only twice in five matches, both of which were due to Adil Rashid’s leg-spin. In the last three IPL seasons, Kohli has been dismissed six times against leg-spinners, yet he still averages 48.83 against them. However, his strike rate against this type of bowling during this period was his 124.68 and in his first 10 seasons he was 153.67. In the last two seasons of IPL, Kohli faced 58 googles and was sent off twice. This number suggests that left-arm pace, rather than leg-spin, is Kohli’s weakness in his IPL. Kohli’s average batting average is only 23.45 and against these bowlers he scores 132.66 and against them he hits 17 balls and he gets dismissed once. Rohit Gurunath Sharma is a world class cricketer from India and is currently the captain of the Indian national cricket team in all formats. He is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen of his generation.
