Rohit Sharma In T20 World Cup 2022 – India will head into the T20 series decider against Australia on the back of confidence after winning a rain-soaked tie in Nagpur.
Although India’s series-equaling win against Australia didn’t come in a complete game as Nagpur were reduced to eight runs apiece, it would have certainly calmed nerves in the home camp.
Rohit Sharma In T20 World Cup 2022
There were serious concerns about the condition of the Indian team in Friday’s rain-affected match. While more attention was focused on the poor bowling performance, Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was also under scrutiny. Unable to defend a healthy run in three big matches this month, there were suspicions that Sharma was losing his leadership touch.
Can’t Teach Anyone To Handle Pressure
In the Asia Cup, India lost to Pakistan by 181 runs. They also failed to defend 173 runs against Sri Lanka. After the loss to Australia in Mohali, the failure to defend 208 runs looked a cause for concern. After all, India’s World Cup opener against Pakistan is only a month away.
BCCI’s aim to replace Virat Kohli with Sharma has been successful in two World Cups – the T20 in Australia and the ODI at home in 2023. Kohli, despite his success in Tests, could not win the ICC trophy. With India losing three matches during the experiment with the team, Sharma’s captaincy was not like him leading the Mumbai Indians. Easy going in the IPL, he was animated, gesticulating wildly and muttering or giving instructions to his teammates. Limited time to try new things doesn’t help either.
Sharma’s excellent batting form will help. Responding under pressure is a true test of a leader. It’s not fair to play him eight times a side, but the way he came out will mean a lot to him. Chasing 91 runs, he showed his bat to score 46* off 20 balls, leaving the crowd spellbound. The performance and victory will help him calm down again.
India still don’t look like a team that can beat the top T20 teams regularly. In the T20 World Cup, the batting should be firing on all cylinders. To improve India’s chances, Sharma needs to be in form as when he is in good form he has a good spell and he dominated the tournament with five centuries in the 2019 World Cup. He seems to be getting into that zone. He has played hard in the last three-four games. He scored 28 off 16 balls against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, followed by 71 off 41 balls.
T20 World Cup 2022: Time To Deliver Is Here For Rohit Sharma And His Team The New Indian Express
Dinesh Karthik, who ended the match with a six and a four, summed up Sharma’s innings in Nagpur. “It is not easy to play such shots on a new ball, against new bowlers of top quality. This shows why Rohit is such a great player not only in Indian cricket but also in world cricket. His ability to play against fast bowling is second to none and that is what makes him really special.”
India and World Cup T20 Australia are gearing up for the series decider on Sunday and the home team captain will be out for a toss on the road.
India vs Australia have always been close. They bring out the best in each other. There will be added motivation for the hosts to make amends for their defeat in 2019 when Aaron Finch scored in a 2-0 win. Sharma is also on a seven-match bilateral series winning streak.
For India, fixing the bowling issues will again be key. Spin has always been India’s strength. It didn’t click in the last T20 World Cup in UAE and India got out early. While there is some concern over key spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s poor form, left-arm spinner Axar Patel has stepped in as a replacement for the injured Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja’s place in the World Cup squad was taken only by injury on 3/17 in Mohali. He backed up that tremendous effort in Nagpur – his 2/13 in eight overs was incredible.

On the other hand, after his blistering performance in the Asia Cup, Chahal was taken to the cleaners in Mohali (3.2-0-42-1). Only one over was used in Nagpur for 12 runs.
Chahal is also expected to play a key role in the Down Under campaign. The team think-tank will be hoping that he takes the opportunity in Hyderabad to find his confidence and rhythm.
Australia would love to win the series in Nagpur, but in terms of the bigger picture, defending their World Cup title at home, getting a chance to test their players in the series decider would be invaluable. The World Cup will feature challenging, do-or-die games and the players will feel that pressure in all the wins at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
