Sachin started as a middle-order batsman for India and before scoring his first ODI hundred, he had scored 2126 runs in 78 matches. But the morning of September 9, 1994 brought the beginning of a glorious chapter of international cricket. Smashing 110 off 130 balls, Sachin not only registered his maiden ODI ton but also helped his team defeat the mighty Australian team.
After winning the toss, India opted to bat first against Australia in the third match of the triangular series with hosts Sri Lanka. Sachin came in to bat with Manoj Prabhakar and the duo gave the team a solid start and put on an 87 partnership for the first wicket.

Prabhakar was dismissed for 20 and wickets began to fall rapidly. While several batsmen got off to a good start, only Vinod Kambli crossed the 40-run mark. On one side of the crease, however, Tendulkar stood as a pillar of strength and guided the team to a total of 246/8.
In the Australian bowling line-up, Sachin also completed his century and played some glorious shorts in all parts of the ground.
In reply, Australia were bundled out for a score of 215 and India won the match by 31 runs. The legendary Sachin Tendulkar scored his maiden international century on this day in 1990. It was the start of a special era as the Master Blaster went on to score 99 more in a brilliant career .

Sachin was just 17 years and 112 days at the time and became the third youngest player to score a ton in international cricket. It took the batting legend eight Test matches to get his maiden century for India and there was no looking back from there as he went on to complete 100 tons in international cricket.

Tendulkar made his debut for India in a Test match against arch-rivals Pakistan in November 1989 and quickly established his credentials as one of the world’s most formidable batting talents at the time.
