In the match against GT, Kohli went on to break Gayle’s record of 6 centuries and became the leading century scorer in history. Kohli scored 101* off 61 balls at a strike rate of 165.57 with 13 boundaries and a six.

Virat Kohli Heist Sankore in IPL 2022

Virat Kohli broke Chris Gayle’s incredible IPL record as he smashed his second consecutive century in the league on Sunday night.

Real Madrid champions Bangalore star Virat Kohli broke his former teammate Chris Gayle’s record in the Indian Premier League by breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 7 league goals last Sunday night. Kohli played a crucial wicket in RCB’s must-win game against Gujarat Titans in Bengaluru, reaching his triple figure in 60 balls; This is Kohli’s second consecutive ton of the season. The 34-year-old also scored 100 runs in the team’s previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Chris Gayle smashed his 6th and final century in the league in the 2018 tournament when he was still representing the Royal Challengers. Interestingly, Kohli’s last century in this pre-season match came in 2019 during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders; He ended his wait for three-figure scores earlier this week when he led a successful campaign against Sunrisers.

Against the Titans, Kohli defied poor conditions (due to rain in Bengaluru) and delayed starts as well as the usual hollows in the middle overs to lead the Royal Challengers to a strong score of 197/5 in 20 overs.

The right-arm batsman began his pace cautiously as the rain eased as the players took to the field. After analyzing the conditions, both – Kohli and RCB captain Faf du Plessis – began to take the foot off the pedal, with the former facing Yash Dayal in the fourth over of the match. He hit the Titans pacer three fours in a row and the duo ended up putting on 62 runs in the Powerplay.

After Du Plessis (28), Glenn Maxwell (11) and Mahipal Lomror (1) were dismissed in quick succession, Kohli turned the strike around and built a crucial partnership with Michael Bracewell (26). Kohli also brought up his half-century in 35 deliveries and quickly changed gears, although Bracewell and Dinesh Karthik (0) were again dismissed in quick time.

Kohli eventually made a blistering 60, taking only 25 balls for the next fifty. He reached the coveted three-figure mark in the final over of the innings against Mohit Sharma as he pushed the delivery towards long-on for a single.

IPL Virat Kohli Records

Two of the biggest names of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are facing each other in the opening match of IPL 2021. Here’s the lowdown.

Captaincy log Sharma has been part of a record six campaign wins (with the Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians), including five as the captain of the Mumbai Indians. Under Sharma, Mumbai Indians were the most successful franchise in the league, winning 68 out of 116 matches. However, Sharma’s performance with the bat as a captain is not exceptional. He averaged 30.25 as captain, compared to 32.91 without the tag. Kohli is one of only four IPL captains with more than 100 caps – he is the only one on this list who has not won the title.

Kohli’s overall win-loss record as an IPL captain is also not good. Royal Challengers won only 55 matches out of 125 matches under his leadership. However, as a batsman, there are not many who can match Kohli’s consistency and impact. He is the leading run-getter in the tournament and still holds the record for most runs as a captain. Kohli’s average as captain of 43.88 is second only to David Warner (49.01) among those with more than 1000 runs as captain, and well ahead of his IPL average before he started leading the Royal Challengers (26.96).

The impact on the team with the bat of Mumbai Indians is less with batsman Sharma than Kohli of Royal Challengers. While Sharma has moved around the batting order, Kohli is the top-order specialist. Only four times he fought outside the top three for the Royal Challengers, contributing 22.93% of the team’s total points.
