Kohli is far from the first cricketer to struggle with a deluge of ticket requests. Prominent former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra have candidly shared their experiences of being besieged by friends, all demanding to get tickets for big matches, including the 2011 World Cup semi-final between India and Pakistan.
Kohli’s wife and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma shared her husband’s post on Instagram, adding, “And let me add… please don’t ask me for help if your messages go unanswered. Thank you for understanding”.
In an effort to manage the ticketing process and avoid fan frenzy, the ICC has come up with a phased approach for releasing tickets, especially for matches in India. The launch plan began on August 25 when tickets for all non-India matches and non-India warm-up matches became available for purchase. This means fans can get tickets for matches involving England, Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and the Netherlands, excluding India, on the same day.
However, things are more complicated when it comes to matches in India. The ICC chose to segment ticket sales by their respective venues. Sales for the warm-up matches in India began on August 30, with tickets for the main round becoming available from August 31. Interestingly, the much-awaited India vs Pakistan match tickets have been released which is for booking from 3rd September.

On September 6, the BCCI announced the release of an additional 400,000 tickets as part of the second phase, with sales beginning on September 8.
