Women’s U19 Cricket World Cup 2023 Host Country – The International Cricket Council opened the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup today in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, as excitement continues to build with a month to go until the first ball is bowled.
The inaugural Cricket World Cup will take place between 14 and 29 January 2023 and will see the future stars of the women’s football tournament with 41 matches played across four venues in Benoni and Potchefstroom over 16 days of cricket.

Opening the competition, former Proteas women’s footballer and South African Olympic athlete Sunette Viljoen was named the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup ambassador. She was joined by Gauteng Sports, Arts and Culture Council Member, Mr. Morakane Mosupyoe, who delivered a speech, while other distinguished guests included Cricket South Africa Board Member and LOC President, Ms. Muditambi Ravele, CEO of CSA, Mr. Pholetsi Moseki, UNICEF South Africa Head of Communications and Partnerships, Toby Fricker and South African women’s team players Sinalo Jafta and Raisibe Ntozakhe.
Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup
The 16 teams in the tournament include Indonesia and Rwanda, who will be participating in the ICC World Cup for the first time ever.
11 full member nations automatically entered this historic edition: Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe.
Scotland, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States of America (USA) join Indonesia and Rwanda in claiming the remaining five countries, representing each of the ICC’s regions, giving fans a chance to see the stars of tomorrow today.
All competitions are free to enter. The semi-finals and final will be held at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on January 29, followed by the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Cape Town, Paarl and Gqeberha starting on February 10, 2022. Both events will play an important role in leaving a lasting legacy to expand the participation of girls and women in South Africa.

Competition director Sivuyile Mqingwana said: “This is a defining moment for female athletes. Shooting in South Africa and for the game in our country. Hosting the ICC once a year is cause for great celebration, but to get two things in a row is beyond our wildest dreams.

Today’s launch only adds to the sense of celebration and excitement that is building in our organization as we count down to the first race of this historic occasion on January 14.”

Bangladesh are the dark horses in Group A and have a strong squad with four players who experienced tours with the senior team last year.
With Shivnarine Chanderpaul as the head coach, the USA cannot be taken lightly. Tournament star Geetika Kodali will captain Team USA with goalkeeper/shotter Anika Kolan named as tournament vice-captain.
England have won the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup with many players having experience on the big stage. England on paper are not only favorites to progress to the Super 6 stage of the tournament, but must dream of going further.
Pakistan joined for the first time and formed the U19 women’s team during a warm-up match. . Led by right-arm spinner Aroob Shah and coached by Mohsin Kamal, Pakistan’s management group will be entrusted with the highest caliber of inexperienced players.

Rwanda turned heads with an upset win over Ireland in a warm-up match ahead of the main tournament. Nineteen years after becoming a member of the ICC, Rwanda’s under-19 women have become the country’s first representative at a global cricket event. They will be hoping to make history in their first event.
Zimbabwe will be hoping to get past the group stage after spending a lot of time as a team before the tournament. Alongside captain Ndhlovu, many expect Michelle Mavunga, the second-highest player in the squad.
After defeating Zimbabwe in the unofficial warm-up, Indonesia turned heads again with another win in the official pre-tournament warm-up match. This is the first ICC World Cup that Indonesia has reached at any level, but these victories created expectations from the newcomers.
With the talent packed in the senior T20Is, West Indies can make an early impact in the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup T20 2023. They have a reasonable squad that can be expected. However, they have won just one of their last 10 T20s – with recent defeats also coming against Sri Lanka, India and the United States.

After winning every match in the Asian qualifiers, the UAE have entered the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s World Cup T20 2023 and will be targeting the final three of the group.
It will be a historic event for Scotland as it is the first time they have a women’s cricket team participating in the World Cup, but it will be a big task for them in a strong group.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six round, where the teams will be grouped into two groups of six. Group 1 will include 3 teams from group A and D, while Group 2 will have 3 teams from each group.
